Back to walking this morning, even though my ankles were protesting about it. But it didn’t take long before they stopped with the complaining. I went down to Nutt Rd at a somewhat steady but not fast pace. While I didn’t take my camera, I did allow myself to stop and take some pictures with my phone. After I got back to camp, I jumped in the truck and went back down the road to take pictures with my camera…not so good at phone pictures, mostly because of limited zoom.
Kim walked much farther than I did…he joined
a Fitbit challenge a day after it started and wanted to improve his numbers. If a little is good, then a lot is better…that
seems to be the Bakker way.

There is a 40-something young lady staying at the campground that speedwalks down Picacho Hwy at a pace just under a jog. Man, does that girl move! I saw her doing laundry today and asked about her walking. She said that she has nothing to do here so she walks, but only on weekdays, not on the weekends. She explained that they’re from Wisconsin, her husband works remotely so they came out to Arizona to escape winter…they’ve been out here almost 6 months. It sounded like they were camping in Scottsdale before coming here; she had a job in retail so that kept her busy. But there’s not a lot of retail opportunity in this area so she walks to give her a something to do other than sit in the camper all day. I can relate to that a little. But while I walk 3 miles a day at a semi-medium pace, she speedwalks 8 miles in the morning and sometimes another 2 miles in the evening. Oh, gracious! Maybe I should introduce her to painting rocks to help stave off the boredom. 😉

I think the ‘superbloom’ of flowers that has people all a-twitter out here should extend to the green-ness of the desert. Green might not be as colorful or as pretty as the purple, orange, yellow and white flowers that have bloomed but, in my experience, it’s a color that the desert doesn’t see so often, except maybe for the cacti. Muted is the word I would typically use to describe the desert landscape; but right now, the desert is showing up in living color. The weeds that grow along the roadside are more like bushes and the desert floor has a green sheen covering it. And, of course, the flowers are everywhere this year, and they seem to have just sprung up out of nowhere…I’m don’t even remember seeing plants in places where there are now flowers. They must have been there, but they certainly weren’t as noticeable as they are now.

Took a quick trip to Casa Grande to pick up
a piece of sheet metal for a repair on the camper. The siding on the front right side of the
camper, at the bottom of the storage/utility door, has pulled loose and split. Can’t
just tuck it back in and screw it down like we did a couple of years ago. Kim’s
idea is to cut off the pieces of siding that are ruined; cover the area with the
sheet metal, making a cutout for the storage door and overlapping the edge of
the siding and screw it to the wall studs.
Works in theory…we’ll see how it goes in reality.
Getting the correct template for the storage
door cutout will require someone to crawl into the storage space and draw the
outline on the inside of the sheet metal while it is temporarily screwed in
place. That someone will probably be me. I told him I’d do it on one condition:
the storage door under the bed has got to be kept propped open otherwise claustrophobia
is going to kick in. I have to be able
to see an opening somewhere. Again, me going into the storage area works in theory…we’ll see how it goes in
reality.

Spent the rest of the day moving things
around to get ready for my mom’s arrival tonight. Three people in the camper
during the day is no problem; it’s the sleeping arrangements that required making
adjustments. Since she goes to bed
earlier than we do, she’ll sleep in the bed while Kim and I sleep on the
couches. And we’ve each made little nests on our respective couches. I have
notebooks, paints, camera case, etc. on my couch and Kim keeps his tablet,
telescope gear, his jacket, etc. on his couch. We’re creatures of convenience
and it much more convenient to keep things handy than to put them away correctly
after using them. We had to decide where all our goodies so come bedtime it would
be easy to turn the couch into a bed. My stuff went in the overhead storage
area; Kim’s stuff was put in totes which then were stashed under his couch. Just
have to be more mindful of putting things away instead of working around
them.

Found another last geocache on Picacho Hwy;
this one was down by the Western Army National Guard Aviation Training
Site. The helicopters were out today
doing whatever it is they do so I felt a little conspicuous snooping around the
driveway for a cache. Would not have been surprised had someone in one of the
copters yelled down at me through a bullhorn, asking what in the world I
thought I was doing. But I guess that’s
not what they were training for today, so I was allowed to search unimpeded.

Cloudy again tonight so Kim will go with me
to the airport to pick up my mom. She
was scheduled to leave Traverse City at 10:30 p.m. and arrive in Mesa at 11:42.
However, Marshal told me that the flight had been delayed at least 17 minutes
on the Traverse end so I should check the status of the flight before leaving
to pick her up. Just checked the flight status and Allegiant is reporting that
the plane didn’t leave Traverse City until 11:43 p.m., EST, and the arrival
time has been changed to 12:47 a.m. The airport is about an hour from the
campground so that means we should be climbing into bed about 2 a.m. Criminy!! I’m not getting 8 hours of sleep
tonight because I have to be up at 7 a.m.
Hoping for quality since I won’t have quantity.

40 Days of Lent
opportunity: Become aware of and write
down areas in your life where jealousy creeps in and PRAY about it. Kim and
I had this discussion after the sermon yesterday, not knowing it would be today’s
opportunity. Since my areas were already out in the open, I didn’t write them
down…I just prayed about them.
