Up early and got a short walk in before heading out for Glendale. Today was V-day for me...time to get my first COVID vaccination. 👍
Back
in February, Arizona Governor Ducey requested more vaccines from the Biden
administration to accommodate the ‘snowbirds’ that flock to his state in the
winter. Some called it unfair that
out-of-staters would be able to get the vaccine because Arizonans should be a
priority, some called it fair because the snowbirds are a big plus to Arizona’s
economy. As it turns out, winter
visitors are not being given priority; they are just being given the
opportunity. Everyone has to go through
the same registration process and hunt for an appointment. We were lucky to have a couple of Super Trupers
(Ezra’s wife Anna and her sister Elise) helping us with the sign up process.
Anna called Friday night saying that she had booked an appointment for me on
Monday, March 15, at 10:30 a.m., somewhere in Glendale...did I want it? She figured it was easier to book it and then
ask rather than waiting to ask first and risk the slot getting filled. It could be cancelled with the click of the
mouse if need be.
Kim
and I discussed it since it would mean extending our time out here because of
the waiting period between doses. Pfizer
at 3 weeks meant that we’d be committed to stay until at least April 5th....Moderna
at 4 weeks meant April 12th. Did
a little more digging and found that it was a Pfizer vaccine....decided to keep
the appointment.

Kim
should be fully recovered from whatever side effects he gets from his second
dose by the time I get my second one. My
theory is that if I have any ill effects from the 2nd dose I can just
sleep it off on the way home as I’ve never driven with this camper anyway. So we’re cautiously optimistic that we’ll be
able to leave on April 6th.

On
the way back to Picacho we saw a car that had a handwritten sign on the back
window that said “I Clap Alien Cheeks”. What the hell does that mean? What do you do when you haven’t got a clue?
Google it...and sure enough it’s a thing but not a real thing, more of a meme
thing. This is what I gleaned from
several sites: Origin: One of the earliest jokes about ‘alien
cheeks’ appeared on Twitter in Dec. 2015 and the expression grew in usage from
there.
Clap
Those Alien Cheeks is a slang expression that means
"to have sex with an extraterrestrial." The phrase grew in
popularity as part of the 2019 Storm
Area 51 meme,
becoming a mock reason for why everyone wanted to storm the military base.
Really!?
Who comes up with this stuff?

Willie and Ann were gone by the time we
arrived back at the campground but Vickie/Dan and John/Michele waited for us to
go to Saguaro Nat’l Park with them.
Stopped at the Visitor’s Center which was a very popular place
today. Strict COVID protocols were in
place in the center itself but as always people were able to wander outside among
the cacti.
**....growing in what is called a “cristate”
or crested form. This happens when the original plant sustains some damage to the normal, single growing
point and causes it to make multiple growing points. These all push against
each other and cause the wavy, fan shape.
**Like several other cacti, the barrel cactus can show deformed growth - termed cristate growth or monstrose growth - in response to damage of the meristem (growing point).
**Crested and monstrose plants are those that exhibit abnormal, distorted or disfigured growth. This happens when a mutation occurs during cell division.--------------------
After
our walkabout in Saguaro Park we headed over to Organ Stop Pizza. We enjoy introducing people to the fun of the
theater organ; John and Michele had never seen it and they’re leaving tomorrow
so tonight was the night. Last year we
couldn’t go to Organ Stop when my mom was here because it closed due to
COVID...this year we’ve been twice in 8 days.
Probably not necessary to go again this trip...I eat too much pizza when
I go there.
--------------------
The day was mostly sunny and warm with a bit
of cloudiness when we were at Saguaro National.
A very long, busy and fun day. I shall sleep soundly tonight!
