Got a good walk in this morning...down the frontage road. Today I finished listening to a podcast I started yesterday then I listened to yesterday’s church service. I enjoy the walking for the exercise and the emotional lift but it can be boring. So I multi-task...walk and listen.
My goal is 10,000 steps a day; that’s the default for Fitbit and sometimes I make it, sometimes I don’t. Kim reset his Fitbit for 21,000 steps as a daily goal. Easier at home because he doesn’t mind walking around the kitchen island as well as the occasional walk outside. No kitchen walking out here but he can walk the perimeter of the campground to get that familiar circular feeling, I suppose.
Took another walk this evening as neither of us had reached our goal yet. My Fitbit set off fireworks indicating that I made it but Kim still has about 1500 steps to get. A couple of trips over to the telescope and back should take care of that.

Because
I’m not fond of hats, I wear a visor to shade my eyes when I walk. Today I sat outside to write some postcards
for the WonderKids. When I took a shower
tonight the water let me know that the part in my hair is sunburned. A little tender up there. I sunscreen my face, arms and hands but can’t
bring myself to put it in my hair so I deal with the peel that eventually
happens.

Ready to rock n roll!! |
Not long after we parted ways I could see there was a huge problem on the eastbound side of I-10. Because it was across all lanes of the highway all I could see was an RV with the back ramp pulled open (never a good sign on the road), emergency vehicles and traffic backed up for two miles or more. Kim had a better view because he went right past it. When I asked about it later he said that the pick-up pulling the RV was entirely burned...he’s not sure about the condition of the front of the RV. The back of the RV was open (that’s what I saw) and a still-in-the-box widescreen TV was partially pulled out. It appeared to be a single vehicle incident although other vehicles had stopped alongside the road so it was hard to tell. State police, fire trucks, and other emergency vehicles were on-site but I couldn’t find any report of the incident online.

We stopped at the Tom Mix Memorial because it's what we do when we ride that road. Last year due to COVID the log book container was removed as a safety precaution. A paper stating the reasoning was left in its place...people wrote on that paper instead because it seems to be important that people get their Tom Mix thoughts written down. The log book still is not back although I think there's a new laminated picture of Tom Mix as well as the newspaper account of his death.

The tree in our campsite has leaves that resemble feathers. Last year we watched as the leaves came on; this year they’re already out. The leaves aren’t attached very securely to the branches; any amount of wind sends them falling onto the ground, lawn chairs, yard rug, my head...really, whatever is down below. And the tree feathers have already started falling. Oh, yippy skippy!! 😒

Last
night’s imaging didn’t go as well as Kim had hoped. The equipment performed as it should but
something was causing concentric circles on all the images. It was extremely cold last night and he has a
couple of theories as to the cause. Although tonight is much warmer he still
took steps to address his theories so he’s optimistic about tonight’s efforts. Nothing worse than spending hours taking
images and not being able to use any of them.

Tomorrow the Charlevoix WonderKids will be here. Since they don’t have a house yet in Charlevoix, they’ve been traveling since the end of November in their camper throughout the south in search of warm weather. The kids have known all along that they’d be seeing us in Picacho in March but what’s time to a child? In Dylan’s mind a 2 minute time-out takes 10 hours...time has no relevance to a child. Today when I sent a little video song about seeing them tomorrow it finally sunk in because they know what ‘tomorrow’ means...tomorrow is just one sleep away. 😴
I got a text tonight from Marshal saying that he and Callie are ready for the kids to have grandparents to talk to...meaning that more than 3 months of living in close isolated quarters with 4 inquisitive children is getting to them. We are the light at the end of that tunnel. 😎

Dylan
and Clayton had a birthday on Feb. 26...a big 6 years old. And because it’s fun to celebrate such things
I made them a cake, bought candles and noisemakers. Presents are back in Charlevoix but no matter...we
shall light candles, sing, eat cake and make noise all in their honor.
