Tuesday, March 16...Who Kept The Sheep (Johnny Cash)

I usually store up the day’s activities in my head or by writing notes and then I sit down at night to write ‘em out.  It’s 11 a.m. and I’m currently at loose ends so thought I’d free up some brain space and put these thoughts down:

-----

Last year we delayed our departure because COVID-19 was becoming a thing and now this year we’re delaying our departure because the vaccine for COVID-19 has become a thing.  Full circle....

--------------------

Pooled our resources again for breakfast; today’s menu consisting of French toast and sausages.  Well, mostly Vickie and Michele provided the food, Kim did the cooking.  Morning was sunny with a cloud or two coming over so we started a campfire also.  Sitting around a campfire in the morning for warmth is just as delightful as at night.  The siblings left at about 11 o’clock to continue on their travels, Kim is switching out his telescopes and I’m sitting here trying to figure out what day it is.  Feels like a Sunday and yet I know it’s not.

--------------------

Last night I lifted my right arm, felt the muscle pain from the injection site and figured I wouldn’t be taking a ride today.  The muscle complained most when I raised my arm about to throttle height.  Pleased to report that I woke up to little pain this morning, so if the weather warms a bit a ride could still happen today. A high of 6oo   is predicted today which is tolerable for riding; however, it just cracked into the 50’s.  It seems the weather will play a bigger part in whether we take a bike ride than muscle soreness.  Might not be optimal for a bike ride today but there are other things to do so I don’t feel like I’m wasting time. I could take a walk, take pictures of the birds up by the clubhouse, put coins on the railroad track, take a ride in the truck or watch some roping over at George’s.  Or do the wash...I really should go do the wash.  But I could multi-task...take pictures of the birds or take a walk while the wash machine does its thing.  Sounds like a plan.

--------------------

Evening edition:

I took a walk this afternoon while the wash was going.  Didn’t get as far as I normally do but I only had 30 minutes ‘til the wash cycle was finished.  And I misjudged my timing...wash was already done when I got back.  Went back to camp during the drying cycle.  Clothes all washed and folded until we get dressed for bed then it starts all over.

--------------------

My arm is feeling totally normal...no soreness left.  And so far, no side effects either.

--------------------

Took a ride in the truck this afternoon armed with pennies and nickels.  Went out to frontage road on the far side of the highway to put some coins on the railroad track.  This year I put a piece of clear tape over each one so hopefully they won’t vibrate off the track as the train approaches.  I was going to check them after supper but Kim thought it might be easier to find them tomorrow morning as opposed to dusk.  I agreed. But as I’m sitting here I’ve heard about 7 trains pass by in a couple of hours...my coins are going to be toast.

-------------------

Kim bought a new coffee maker...the French press just took too long.  Instant gratification is what these coffee makers sell.  Made by the manufacturers of Instant Pot, it’s an Instant Pod not a Keurig.  But it uses the same K-cups.   When we get to camp he takes it out of the box, gets it set up and starts brewing a cup.  However, it’s making a strange noise which he comments on as we’re eating supper.  Then he says, “Well, you know, I didn’t read the instructions...”  So I grab the instructions and start skimming to figure out what the noise is.  I read the set-up directions and when I get to the part where it says to ‘discard the red plug’ he looks at me and says, “There’s a red plug?”  Well, that proved to be the source of the noise...the machine couldn’t draw the water in because the red plug was preventing water from flowing into the pot. Noise calmed down considerably when he took care of that problem.  Still makes a very slight huffing and puffing when the coffee is done...I think that’s just part of the brewing process. Kim was very gratified to get his first cup of coffee right after he pushed the ‘go’ button.

--------------------

While driving through Coolidge I saw a different food truck at Shope’s IGA; this one advertising Fry Bread. “Guess ere we’re going for supper?”  Stopped on our way home...I’d like a Fry Bread taco and a Fry Bread burrito, please.  We knew it’d be a mess waiting to happen if we ate in the car so we drove back to camp, smelling the goodness for about 20 minutes.  The taste lived up to the smell.  😘

-------------------

Day stayed on the cool side unless you were sitting in the cab of a truck with the sun streaming in.  The clouds in the morning sky moved on and the night is clear so Kim is out imaging.  Or rather his telescope is imaging while he sits n the camper playing his game.

--------------------

There is a field along the route to Coolidge that has a massive amount of sheep grazing on it. Why is a big mystery to me but the sheep sure are grazing it down.  Tonight I saw a big white-ish dog hanging with the sheep...Kim said there’s a possibility that they have a Great Pyrenees to protect the sheep from coyotes.  As if on cue about a ½ mile further up I saw a coyote sitting beside the road as if it was debating whether to cross.  My biggest concern for the sheep has always been that they not get on the road...never thought about the danger from the coyotes.  If that dog is anything like Harper, the Pyrenees that Marshal owned, those sheep will be well protected.
