Evening of September 3---Actual beginning of the
journal…that other stuff was just preliminary fluff.
We hadn’t
talked about what time we wanted to get on the road…probably a good thing since
we got up later than usual. Had some
last minute fine tuning of our packing….we got on the road at about 12:30 pm,
heading for Granger, IN. Supposed to be
about a 5 hour run….true to form we turned it into about 7 hours. J
Hadn’t
even gotten fully out of the driveway and I knew I had a problem….my iPod
wasn’t playing. It was powered up, it
went through the playlist/song selection process but wouldn’t play
anything. Came up with 2 options: do
a reset or buy a new one. Yes, I am that determined to listen to music
when I ride, (a.k.a. spoiled) that I
would spend the money. Stopped in
Kalkaska for a late lunch and I was able to reset it. Yay!
Weather
was all over the place today. When we
left Charlevoix, it was in the low 70s but humid already. Started raining somewhere around East Jordan,
but it was on and off, didn’t seem too serious.
But when we stopped in Kalkaska, my pant legs were soaked. Crap! But fortunately, it warmed up and about
as soon as my pants dried, it rained again.
Wet legs again! They dried out
again by Grand Rapids and we had sun the rest of the day. However, my socks are taller than my boots,
so the rain soaked my pant legs and wicked down into my boots. Socks didn’t dry so much when riding….they
were the first things off when we got to the campground.
Saw a
temperature of 92o coming through Schoolcraft, MI, sometime early
evening. I’m sitting here at the
campground typing and I’m just dripping with sweat. There is no breeze either. So glad we have our little fan….and we might
even stop and buy another one if this heat and humidity stick around.
