On the road without Jack Kerouac

September 3, 2015
I am a reluctant blogger.  I’m making my journal public because Kim wants me to.  Blogs seem to be written by people with credentials and who have recipes to share, advice to give or have any number of profound/life changing thoughts to share about their subject.  Their insight can inspire the reader to eat healthier, change attitudes, have head smacking ‘Aha!’ moments, and so on.  This is not that.  I have no credentials…no initials or titles after my name.  This is just me writing about whatever strikes my fancy as I ride along wherever our travels may take us. Any journal/blog I write is really just a record of my memories…my perspective on the places we’ve been, the sights we’ve seen, the people we’ve talked to, etc.  Once in a while, if I badger him about it, Kim will write down his thoughts…but mostly it’s my take on things.   I tend to write like I talk, which is definitely not the Queen’s English J and beyond that I try to write in a way that will instantly recall a particular moment in time…which means that I might not adhere to all that Mrs. Robertson tried to teach me in 10th grade about writing a paper.  And since I only do this for a few weeks every year or so, I never really get the hang of navigating the blog set up….I have to relearn each year.  So…if you’re along for the ride (yes, pun intended), be aware that not all grammar/punctuation/sentence structure will be correct…not all words will be spelled correctly…my thoughts will be random and possibly disjointed, but not profound (well, except to me)… and there may be spaces where there shouldn’t be spaces just because of my inability to figure out the stupid blogging format.   J

First thing Kim says this morning was, “Today we start on another great  adventure!”  Yes, indeed , we do!  We didn't mean to, but we slept in.  Not a huge deal, though, because we have reservations at a KOA just into Indiana….about a 300 mile/5 hour ride.  The way we ride, that’ll be more like a 7 hour run but at least we know we have a place to put our tent.
Instead of just winging it and seeing what’s available when we’re ready to stop, the plan is to look at the map and come up with a vague idea of how far we want to make it that day; then we'll look to the KOA book to see what campgrounds might be nearby, and make a reservation.  That’s another thing experience taught us….it’s okay to plan ahead!
Rained last night….big time!  Woke up to the thunder…then as I was dashing around closing windows, guided by the flashes of lightning, I started rethinking the camping idea for this trip.   And as I was falling back asleep to the sound of the rain, I had images of soaked tent, soaked Kim n Karen, soaked….well, soaked everything!  Oh, well, it’s part of the adventure, right?

Have a few things to finish up…..then it’s time to get this party started!
