Bikes went absolutely nowhere today...and neither did I. We're at Marshal and Callie's in Kentucky for the weekend...and since I dislike navigating Marshal's driveway on my bike, I don't intend to go anywhere on Pegasus until we leave...Monday or Tuesday. If I need to get into town, I'll borrow a car. The driveway is somewhat steep with some ruts that have been filled in with stones. First time we rode our bikes here was 4 years ago....made it up okay but going down I hit my brakes a bit hard and slid on the stones. Next time going down it, I had Marshal ride my bike and I walked down. I know it's a psychological thing for me...5 years after the Great Crash of 2010, twisties don't have a hold on me anymore, but Marshal's driveway sure does. Have already looked it over to plan the best way down when we leave...and I don't really know that there's a 'best way', except to have Marshal ride it down for me again.
It was beastly hot again today and I'm thinking it's only gonna get hotter as we go farther south. So we might have to factor in the heat when plotting out how far we plan to ride on any given day. Yesterday riding 7 hours in the full sun really zapped both of us. I sure enjoyed it when the trees started throwing shadows on the road or a cloud passed overhead....grateful for the very brief respite from the unrelenting sun. Also we tend to stop more often on the sunny, hot, humid days...sitting in the shade of a tree feels absolutely delicious in those conditions. So, looking at the weather report, in addition to the map, might be a good idea. Depending on the forecast, maybe we'll plan a 200 mile day instead of 300 miles. That's one of those things that we'll have to play by ear...we've allotted 3 weeks for the trip and really, who cares if it takes a couple more days than that. I've already changed the hair appointment I had on the 25th...not against changing the dentist appointment of the 29th, either.
So, it's all about hanging out with family for the next two days....soaking up time with some of the WonderKids. Then we'll get back to the business of riding....
