Saturday, March 26…I Can See Clearly Now (Johnny Nash)

Up at 7 a.m and I didn’t prioritize a walk until about 10.  And that was definitely not the best time to be out walking even though the sky was cloudy.  Today the air felt thick and I could feel it pressing up against me. As I walked I imagined that if the air was watercolor paint it would have just been dripping down the page.  But no worries because it’s a dry heat, right???

I walked slowly today because it was not a day for moving fast.  Went a little past the caracara nest and turned around.  By that time the caracara was out on the cactus arm so I played around with pictures until it flew. Then I slow-ly walked back to camp where I sat in the shade and melted.

I told Kim that I had to get out of the heat.  He suggested turning the air on but I wanted to be out of the heat and out of the camper.  Kim suggested going to the movies again. Great idea!!  There was a 1:30 showing of Sing 2 and just that quick, we had a plan.

Shenika and Audra, our neighbors, are going to be gone tonight so we’re sort of on Marcy duty.  She’s 13 and thought to be capable of staying by herself but it doesn’t hurt to have somebody on standby.  We invited her to go to the movie with us and just that quick our plan got bigger.

----------

We all enjoyed the air conditioned movie theater and the movie. Walking from the theater into 96o heat was like walking into a wall.  And where we parked?  It gets full afternoon sun! Agh!!  No wonder hardly anybody parks over on that side of the theater.  The marshmallows and graham crackers I had bought on the way to Casa Grande did fine but the candy bars didn’t stand a chance as the truck heated up in the sun.  I’m sure the word Hershey’s is no longer visible on them…put ‘em directly in the freezer when we got back.  Hopefully they’ll be solid again in time for s’mores later.

----------

Turned the air on before we left and arrived back at camp to a deliciously cool camper.  Changed into riding clothes and headed out on Zeus to the Tucson Harley dealership.  Rode the frontage roads both ways…not a fan of riding in among semi-trucks going 75 mph.  My head felt like a big ball of sweat when I took my helmet off and a shower was definitely in order but ooh, boy, was it a good ride! Managed to see a spectacular sunset too.😎

----------

Had a fire tonight despite the daytime temperature.  There’s just something special about sitting around a campfire and talking after the sun sets. And, of course, a campfire requires s’mores.  The candy bars left in the truck had hardened but most of the chocolate had gravitated to one end so it was not a typical Hershey’s full length candy bar.  All the chocolate was there, it was just in a different shape. Still tasted good though.

Kim is trying to image…lots of stars are out but so are some wispy clouds.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Today’s 40 Days of Lent challenge…clean something that you’ve been avoiding.  Well, that’s a fairly wide open field but I was able to narrow it down to a starting point…the kitchen window.

Kim and I each claimed a couch in the main area of the camper where we sit and keep our computer, books, etc.  My couch is on the ‘passenger side’ of the camper.  Because I don’t like feeling like I’m in a dark cave, I open the window shades as soon as I get out of bed.  The kitchen has a tiny window and since my couch faces the kitchen I’ve been looking through a grimy dusty window every time I glance over there. Today’s challenge was just the motivation I needed to wash it. Then every other window got washed, the floor got mopped and the bathroom got totally cleaned.  I may have overachieved on the challenge today but our view is definitely clearer!

Kim didn’t necessarily clean something he’d been avoiding but he fixed something on the camper that he’d been avoiding.  The outer storage door is now stable and the siding is firmly in place. 😎
