Sunday, March 17…Clean Up Woman (Betty Wright)

I’ve become a traffic cone watcher!  Anytime I pass a construction zone I look for a sticker or something that indicates who’s supplying the traffic cones.
The far end of Coolidge has some road work being done and the cones/signs have a Quail construction sticker.  So it would appear that Quail Construction is supplying the traffic safety cones and signage for that particular project.  I assume they are also doing the work but I don’t know for certain because I’ve not seen any work being done…have only seen the cones on the road.  Feels kind of like Michigan that way. 😏  Anyway, the site quailcorp.com gave me a quick overview of the company, along with a listing of their services and products:
Quail Construction was founded in 1998 and has continued to be privately owned and operated for over 20 years. Starting out in Yuma Arizona, we now service Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada with locations all over the state including, Flagstaff, Bullhead, Tucson and Yuma. We strive to offer complete customer satisfaction in a timely manner all while maintaining the upmost safety.
That’s 3 companies supplying traffic safety cones in three different construction jobs around here.  I never took notice of such things until now.  Bob’s Barricades is sort of responsible for my sudden fascination with traffic cones. πŸ˜ƒ

Walking, riding with a helmet, wearing sunscreen, sweating, being in an area with blowing dust…all reasons to shower and shampoo daily.  I prefer to shower in the morning…later in the day seems to be too much of a hassle because showering at a campground is a process not just a walk down a hallway.  Out here we hit the ground walking upon waking up, then there’s the ‘bathroom closed between 11 and noon for cleaning’ issue and at that point if we’re going to take a ride or explore in the truck, it makes sense to wait for a shower.  Put a hat on my head or just not care.   Then I hit that ‘it’s too much of a hassle’ time frame and it’s becoming far too easy to say “I’ll just wait until tomorrow.”  And that same scenario could repeat itself the next day.  It’s becomes a vicious cycle and before I know it I’m thinking “When was the last time I showered?” πŸ˜•
A teenager was using ‘dry shampoo’ this morning when I walked into the bathroom.  I asked if that’s what it was as I’d used something similar back when I was a teenager…a quick fix for those times you just don’t have time nor inclination to wash your hair.  She gave me the bottle so I could look at it…then she made the offer to let me use it.  I thanked her but declined saying that my hair was at a point that it required water and shampoo to bring it back to life. 😐
Headed out for a short walk this morning…we went by time and not distance today.  Fifteen minutes out and then fifteen minutes back. Not as many steps but that left time to get a shower before church.  Ahhh, squeaky clean…what a wonderful feeling!  Note to self:  You should do this more often. πŸ‘

Twenty-six people in church this morning…that number includes some kids.  Every week as we are greeted by the regular attenders and then listen to a sermon that has relevance to living in today’s world, we are grateful for this church away from our home church.  It’s not high tech although the pastor does use his computer as a power point tool when it decides to cooperate, we sing songs out of a hymnal that we have to hold and the singing is accompanied by a pianist, not a praise band. It’s old school for sure, especially when compared to mega churches that have multiple campuses with technology connecting them all to a single sermon on Sunday morning.  Being on the cutting edge of technology or doing it old school doesn’t matter…it’s simply a group of people coming together to worship God. 😊  We’re thankful for the opportunity to worship with this small church.

We hung a hummingbird feeder in our camp tree the other day.  There are 5 or 6 feeders up by the clubhouse to keep the hummers busy and we didn’t know if they’d even find ours but nothing ventured, nothing gained.  Well, it’s impossible to tell if it’s the same hummer or several that have been coming to feed at ours but they found it.  The males can get quite territorial about the feeders up front.  It’s interesting to watch…a male will sit in a nearby tree waiting for another bird to come to the feeder.  It then swoops down to chase it away…not because he wants to drink but because he doesn’t want any other bird there feeding.  So while the males are busy protecting the feeders up front maybe the females will realize there’s another option back here.

I practiced just being in camp today.  Not an easy thing for me when the day is gorgeous and Zeus is nearby just waiting to be taken out on the road.  It’s especially hard when the days are passing and I know what awaits us in Michigan.  Even if the snow has melted by the time we get home, I know it’s not going to be sunny with temps in the 80s. But today, in spite of the call of the open road, I choose to sit in a chair under the tree just enjoying the warmth of the day.  It wasn’t an all afternoon thing…it was just a short time but it was nice.

Yesterday started calm but got windier as the day progressed.  Today started out calm and remained so into the afternoon.  Perfect conditions to put the drone up and get pictures of the highway construction going on around Picacho.  About 3 miles of the interstate has been totally reconfigured and moved.  Even on the Exit 211 overpass it’s hard to see the scope of the project.  The drone was able to get me a wider view of what’s happening.  However, it’s Sunday and there's no work being done but still interesting to see it from an overhead perspective.  Kim also took pictures of the campground for Ryan to see.

We did take a ride today.  Not an exceptionally long one as I had spent part of the day sitting under the tree and then we took the time to play with the drone.  But Kim needed some vape juice and Google indicated that there were two vape stores in Coolidge, both open ‘til 6 p.m.   So we jumped on the bikes and away we go to find that the first store on the list was closed.  As in ‘the building is vacant and there are For Sale sign on the windows’ kind of closed.  Okay, let’s take a break for a Starbucks coffee and brownie and find out where the other one is located.  Made a call to the second one on the list…a man answered who explained that the store has been closed for about 3 years and he can’t get Google to remove it from the list.  O-kay!  Last one is in Casa Grande.  I’ll call to make sure that it’s open and that the hours are correct since Google doesn’t seem to be on the mark with this.  Yes, they are open.  So we consult Rapunzel who gives us two route…both roughly the same distance, one is familiar and one isn’t.  I wanted to take the #2 route…uncharted roads for us.  As I was studying the map and checking out the roads names and necessary turns, Kim told me he was okay with route #2 as long as I had the route firmly in my head.  I believed I did…so off we go with Kim in the lead and me feeding him the directions over the radio. It’s a system that works well for us.

The Fitbit thinks I’m not going to make my 10,000 steps tonight and that’s correct as far as it knows.  But I took it off today when I was on the bike and all the walking I did when we stopped wasn’t counted.  I know what I did today and it's okay that the Fitbit doesn't know the whole story.
