Monday, March 13…On the Road
Again
It’s moving day! Packing
up and getting on the road to New Mexico with a stopover in Tucson at Bryan and
Linda Shumaker’s place. We have a loose
idea of what where we’re heading but are always open to change. I’m the person who doesn’t like vacationing
in the same spot and yet I found myself a bit hesitant about moving on. We’d settled into a rhythm during our time in
Picacho and had gotten to know the area…the roads to ride, the local grocery
store, gas station, hardware store, etc. The familiar is comforting. But it’s time to experience something
new. And it was a trial run breaking
down all the modifications Kim had made on the trailer. Finding a place for the shelves and brackets,
learning the order of packing, etc.
Mission accomplished by 11:15 a.m…..and away we go!

Had our last conversation with #35…right up to the point of
us leaving, he was offering tips on places to visit. He thinks maybe on our way home we should
stop at the Noah’s Ark somewhere in Ohio, since it’s kind of on our way. Oh, really??
He still had a few of the grapefruit/oranges left, don’t know if he’ll
ever find out that the oranges aren’t really oranges. Oh, and we found out his name is Jim. J

In the Catalina Mountains |
Drove up into the Catalina Mountains with Bryan and Linda
this afternoon. Typical winding road up
the mountain with a great view. At first
it was overlooking Tucson…interesting to see the layout of the city from above.
Then the farther up the mountain we
went, there was less of the view of the city below and more about the view around us…rocks
balanced on rocks, rock outcroppings, etc. Stopped at several viewpoint along the way up
to Mt. Lemmon. We didn’t get to the
highest point, which is 9171 ft, due to a road closure….but I’ve been told we
were up at around 8600 ft. There was
snow still in evidence…in fact, quite a bit on the Ski Valley ski hill. It’s closed due to insufficient snow. I was able to make a snowman, a very little
snowman because it wasn’t exactly packing snow…more like the crushed ice used
in slushies. We tracked the temperature
readings on the way back down the mountain….61o at 8600 ft….76o
at 5000 ft…and 89o back at the house. Quite the change! A lot of rock formations along the way and
saguaros in the lower elevation, paddle cactus in the higher elevation to pine
trees and no cactus at our highest point.

No miles ridden today as the bikes were in the trailer.
