Picked Marilyn up at the airport at about 11 p.m....plane was on time
but they had to walk across the tarmac to get in the terminal. Apparently this airport/airline doesn’t spoil
its customers with an enclosed walkway from terminal to plane. Got back to camp about midnight...3 a.m.
Michigan time. Long past my mom’s
bedtime of ten o’clock. 😴

It’s not unusual for Kim to stay up processing his images after he shuts
down his telescope. That could mean he’s
awake until the wee hours of the morning.
That’s the main reason we decided that Marilyn should have the bedroom
and we’d sleep on the couches. Then she
could go to bed at her normal time and we could sit at the table each doing our
thing and not interfere with her sleep.
--------------------
My mom walked outside this morning at about 7:30 a.m. and exclaimed how
beautiful it was. Spoken like a true
Michigander in search of something warmer than a late winter’s day in the
Mitten State.
Hung around the camp this morning...took a walk to familiarize her with
the campground, introduced her to Felicia, and showed her where Kim does his
imaging. She figured out that any
walking she does has to be early morning because the 11 a.m. sun was already
too much for her. She was fine with the
temperature; it was the sun that she wanted to avoid. Because of the damage caused by the lack of
caution in her younger years she’s very cautious about sun exposure now. I can understand that...I may be doing more of
the early to bed, early to rise thing so I can keep up with her.

Mostly we spent the day in camp talking and watching hummingbirds flit
around. We did go for a ride in the
afternoon. It served a two-fold purpose:
to show Marilyn some of the area and to get away for a bit. Went out to Hawk Nest Road to check on the
nest...a hawk was on a nearby electrical pole but there was not visible
reaction to my presence from within the nest.
Then we cruised on down to the Field of Glass...a field where glass has
been tossed for probably generations.
There’s some other rubbish also but it’s mostly glass. Last year it
seemed that the glass had been covered by a thin layer of dust thereby reducing
the sparkly effect; today it was really sparkling in the sunshine. Either the wind uncovered the glass that it
had covered the previous year or else more glass was thrown around for good
measure. The reason for treating the land
this way is still beyond my comprehension.

Using his Go-Go Gadget arms |
Also did some geocaching while we were out...a nearby cache had really
caught my interest. The description read
that a special tool or “Inspector Gadget arms” would be necessary. It also mentioned needing TOTT...neither of
us had a clue what that meant but Google to the rescue. TOTT means ‘Tools of the Trade’ in geocache
speak. Figured all those clues meant
that this one was going to be higher off than normal. We initially went to just see if we could
find it and then maybe come back to get it with whatever TOTT was needed. Well, we found it...and Kim’s TOTT to
retrieve it was the truck. He maneuvered
the truck around so he could stand on the hood and with a little stretching was
able to grab it from the tree. Signed
the log and with some more stretching was able to replace the cache for someone
else to find.

Kim is out with his telescope. There’s
supposed to be at least 8 hours of clear sky tonight. Don’t think he’ll be out that long but it
widens the list of targets. If more
exposure time is needed, it’s helpful if the sky will be clear the entire
time. It’s frustrating for him to have
thin clouds appear when he’s almost but not quite done.
Mom and I walked over there to see how it was going before returning to
the trailer so she could get to bed. It’s
not even 9 p.m. but last night’s time change is catching up with her. I know that Kim will want to process whatever
he images so changing our sleeping arrangements was a good idea.

Saw some cacti that are on the verge of blossoming. There are several cholla cacti down the road
that have suddenly popped with bright yellow fruit. I found three types of
cholla that look similar and have the yellow fruit I saw: cane,
buckhorn, and staghorn. My eye is not
discerning enough to tell the difference so I’m not sure what type it was. As I was taking pictures I noticed a huge
bird nest nestled in among the thorns. A few strategically placed cotton
balls gave it a cozy look...that is, if something can look cozy when sitting in a thorny cactus. 😉
