Sunday, February 24….Should I Stay or Should I Go? (The Clash)

Pre-trip ramblings:
Tomorrow, February 25th, has been the projected date for our 4th annual Get Out of Winter Pilgrimage to Arizona. Kim has an appointment (10:30 a.m.) and for the last 2 months our plan has been to leave right after that.   However, today it seems that the weather just might be a determining factor in our departure.  Mother Nature has been having a grand ol’ time messing with the Mitten state and doesn’t show signs of stopping.  Early January wasn’t too bad but then the Deep Freeze happened in late January and it’s been all sorts of crazy since then….ice, wind, snow, warming temperatures, falling temperatures and more ice and wind.  It feels like it’s been a 6 week long winter storm warning/watch/ advisory.  And it’s not just the Mitten state…the craziness has been spread around the country.  Snow on the saguaros around Tuscon yesterday?!
The need to see the sun and feel warmer weather has been growing stronger by the day.  We’ve seen momentary glimpses of the sun and the temp has hit 40o but I want more.  I’m a lifelong Michigander and know better than to assume that Mother Nature would be over her winter fury by the end of February but I was hopeful…oh, was I hopeful.  It was encouraging to see the temperature reading 38o at 7:30 this morning…the snow had done some settling and puddles were appearing. Yay!  But by noon the temperature was rapidly falling and so was the snow…and the wind had picked up.  Aghhh…now those sloshy puddles are going to turn to ice and the roads will drift again.  Make it stop!! 😒
So…bottom line is that we’ll have to wait to see what the weather does between now and tomorrow at noon to determine if we stay or go.  Driving in the snow is one thing…adding ice and wind when pulling a trailer makes it an entirely different ballgame.

P.S. The only things we have packed are the motorcycles, camping gear and telescope paraphernalia.  Clothing and technology are still on the to-do list.  It will be a mad scramble of packing if the weather does calm down enough for us to head out.  However, this is not our first rodeo…we know how to pack quickly. 👍
