I don’t think there’s such a
thing as silence around here during the day. If it’s not chirping, it’s
crowing, cooing, tweeting, or woofing. Around sunset, the bird noises fade
away, but then the moaning dog usually does his thing. Don’t know which dog, we
just know that a dog in the neighborhood across the road sounds like it lost
its best friend. A quiet, low, moaning that stands out at night because the
birds are silent.

I put the bird feeders and the solar fountain out today. We’ve got a variety of enticements hanging on
the tree this year: nectar, suet, peanut butter balls, thistle seed and a seed
ring. I wanted to try different types to see what birds would come in. If the Arizona
birds don’t eat it, we’ll take it home because it’s all food that our Michigan
birds eat. We also brought out a bird feeder camera, which hasn’t been set up
yet.

Went to Coolidge today for groceries…and stopped at a food truck on the way
home. 🙃
Also picked up some project supplies. The bedroom and vanity ceiling light
switches are just a tad too high for me to reach, as are the controls for the
bathroom fan. Bakker ingenuity to the rescue. A dowel and Shoo Goo should fix
the light switch problem (Shoo Goo is still drying), and a customized PVC pipe fixture
fixed the bathroom fan problem.
**Footnote: No matter how clever the solution, trying to find a small ceiling
light switch in the dark with a dowel can be like playing Pin the Tail on the
Donkey, except on the ceiling. Just
sayin’…**

An addendum to yesterday’s ramblings about the three sites back here:
Joe was told that back in the day before the perimeter fence was added, these three
sites used to be pull-thru. Since Picacho Highway is on the other side of the
fence, that makes sense. But I don’t know how the campground would monitor the comings
and goings if this area was open to the road.
I’m speculating that when the campground became a sanctioned KOA
campground, a fence had to be installed around the perimeter, thereby closing
in these three sites. Our first year here was in 2016, and the fence was
already in place. Because the addition of the fence made these back-in sites, only
employees camped here then. Short-term
campers typically avoid back-in sites anyway; a pull-through site is so much
easier and, besides, if a person is lousy at backing up a camper, no need to
advertise the fact. 🙂
Yesterday as we were taking off for the Dairy Queen, I noticed movement
on the ground. I waited to see if it
would happen again and was excited to see a tiny Regal Horned Lizard, commonly
known as a Horny Toad, according to Kim. I think of them as the Lizard That Can
Shoot Blood From Its Eyes, but Horny Toad is shorter to say. Snapped a quick picture then caught up with
Kim. I didn’t have anything to give it size reference, but its flattened body
was about the size of a half-dollar.

Weather today was cloudy and gloomy.
Sky looked like it could rain any moment, but it didn’t. Temperature was
in the mid-70’s but I’d say the breeze chill made it feel like low 60’s.
Sweatshirt weather.

Time to do some proofreading for someone. Internet is being wonky so I’ll be posting
this tomorrow.
